Protecting your hair from sun damage
So often, when the sun returns in England or we have a holiday abroad, we think of protecting our skin; well, let’s think about our hair too.
Did you know it isn’t just the heat which affects the hair? Whilst higher temperatures cause the evaporation of moisture and oil, we also need to consider the effect of Ultraviolet light.
Ultraviolet light is the stimulant that makes us produce Melanin in our skin and causes tanning. Whilst you may enjoy a healthier glow, the sun also causes a reaction within the hair shaft, which creates a “Bleaching” effect.
The light reacts with oxygen in the hair shaft and makes a weak Peroxide, which in turn burns up some of your hair’s natural and artificial pigment. It also damages the structure by weakening the bonds that hold the hair together. Who knew it was doing such damage as you tanned!
This summer, start a habit of protecting your hair just as you arm yourself with skin protection.
We really recommend, The SP Sun Range; check it out here or purchase at the salon.
