How to care for real hair extensions

Real hair extensions are a fabulous way to enhance, thicken and lengthen your hair; however, good aftercare is essential to maintain your new hair.

If you are considering hair extensions, we strongly advise you to consider the regime you must follow. Hair extensions may not be for you if you do not love looking after your tresses.

Shampoo with a good quality shampoo and conditioner, we recommend Wella System Professional Hydrate or Colour products. Ensure that there is no Protein in the shampoo, as this may soften the bonds. 

Use a hairdryer on low heat and a soft bristle extension brush to gently dry from roots to ends. Smooth down with the hairdryer set to cool for a final blast to fix the style. 

General Care 
– Run fingers between the bonds daily to keep them separated 
– Use a leave-in Conditioning Spray and brush through daily. We recommend SP Hydrate spray or SP Luxe Oil 
– Brush from ends to roots – not roots to ends!

However, be aware that all extensions have caveats;
– Strictly avoid Saltwater – It can discolour your hair and leave it dry. Chlorine in water will also cause matting and discolouration.
– Using excess heat will reduce the lifespan of extensions 
– UV rays will discolour extensions
– Colouring extensions is not recommended
– Light Blonde coloured hair has a shorter lifespan due to the bleach content and will require more aftercare
– Hair colours will vary slightly from batch to batch due to the characteristics of real human hair
